"Heave, everyone, heave!" Charlie called out over the rush of the ocean. He adjusted the heavy brass compass resting in his palm, tracking the needle as it settled west. Beside him, the crew grunted and laughed, leaning back in unison against the thick rigging rope. His parrot fluttered its feathers with an approving chirp. When the canvas billowed wide, capturing the golden sunset breeze, the deck beneath Charlie's wheels surged forward into adventure.
The salt air tasted of promises as Charlie steadied the polished compass in his lap. Beneath the sunset's copper glow, the needle trembled and held true toward the distant island peaks. "Hold steady, mates, we have the wind now!" he called across the sunlit timbers. Beside him, laughter mingled with grit as the crew pulled as one continuous heartbeat. With every synchronized tug on the hemp, the great sail swelled above them, carrying their collective hopes into the open sea.
